Anél Kloppers is a Johannesburg based clinical psychologist and child therapist. Anel Kloppers Family Practice offers various services pertaining to individual and family mental health.
I offer various services ranging from individual and group psychotherapy across the lifespan, psychological assessment (including medico-legal assessment), to antenatal courses, groups and support, early parenting guidance, talks and workshops, and mediation. I am a registered Circle of Security Parenting facilitator and licensed Babies in Mind practitioner, and am a clinical member of the South African Psychoanalytic Initiative. My practice is based in Melville, Johannesburg. Limited services are also available in other areas in Gauteng.
I work in an insight-oriented way, where the therapeutic space is used towards gaining an understanding of your internal world and how it impacts your day-to-day life and functioning. This means that although the aim is to alleviate the symptom/s that brings you to therapy, understanding the meaning of the symptom is where the process of psychotherapy is focused and healing takes place.
Sessions are conducted in English or Afrikaans, and I work comfortably across different cultural, subcultural and religious groups.
The psychotherapy I offer can assist with various difficulties, including:
- Depression and anxiety
- Support for patients with psychotic symptoms
- Personality disorders
- Personal growth
- Support during terminal illness
- HIV/AIDS counselling and support
- Relationship difficulties, such as in intimate relationships, parent-child relationships, professional relationships, peers
- Emotional difficulties during the antenatal period
- Preparing for and processing birth
- LGBTQ+ challenges
- Addiction support
- Adjustments and life transitions
I have training and experience across the lifespan and population groups:

- Art/ expressive arts therapy for adolescents and adults

Psychotherapy is conducted at my practice in Melville, Johannesburg. I also conduct live video consultations via Skype, should face-to-face psychotherapy not be logistically viable.

The assessments I conduct can serve various purposes, such as facilitating self-understanding, gaining insight into academic or work performance or challenges, to assist in legal matters (medico-legal assessments), or psychiatric diagnoses.
